The Need for Early Childhood Care and Education

 

“Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) is globally recognised as a crucial element of education for holistic development. Therefore, countries the world over have also intensely pursued it. But in India, 30% of almost 385 million children live in extreme poverty. Hence, in India, it gets difficult for a child to get proper care and education, as parents from marginalised families neglect a child’s development in the early stage of life. The New Education policy of India will focus on the aspect that, every child in the age range of 3-6 years has access to free, safe, high quality, developmentally appropriate care and education by 2025”. This text portion is taken from the New Education Policy 2019 document of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt of India.

Human needs follow a hierarchy and if the lower needs of a child are not satisfied, it turns out to be very challenging to work with higher needs. Agreeing the Maslow’s hierarchy of human needs, basic needs must be met before students focus on the aspect of learning. Early Childhood care and Education focus on developmentally appropriate care which is basically the lower needs of a child. A teacher who rises out as a designer of the future can just create compatibility and trust with the students. This trust and acknowledgment will make a mentally solid learning condition. Moreover, if certain strategic steps will also help the teacher to design learning in such a way that, which will also improve the relational connection between the teacher and the students. This will also inculcate a sense of belonging and being valued elaborates the chances of students taking the positive challenge for profound learning
