Abstract
Cultural organizations have gained new tools as technological thought has advanced, making the documenting and analysis of current work more efficient. The core of museum documentation is creating and applying information about the objects in a museum collection and the procedures that support collection management. The digitization of museum collections is part of a larger worldwide movement towards sustainability practices. In order to fully understand museum exhibits, thorough documentation is essential. Firstly, manual methods can be used to document museum collections. Digital technology is transforming museums from analog to digital. Digital documenting of museum collections helps preserve data, accessibility, and presentation. Managing, record keeping, and preservation are the most essential aspects of digital documentation. Several museums in Egypt, Africa, and elsewhere have yet to embrace digitalization. The National Museum of Egyptian Civilization is selected to explore how digital documentation affects the museum collections’ sustainability. This research applies two main approaches involving qualitative data such as a literature review and interviews, as well as quantitative data as the main approaches that will employ structured surveys and questionnaires; and create a digital database for the museum collection. The research has the potential to make significant contributions to the preservation, accessibility, sustainability, and overall enrichment of cultural heritage within the museum sector. In summary, the findings serve as a valuable resource for professionals, policy-makers, and institutions seeking to harness the power of digital documentation in preserving and sharing our collective cultural legacy.
