Future Migrant Vestiges: Memory, Migration, and Collective Action for Inclusive Cities

Abstract

The experimental artistic practices from the MUI (Museo Urbano Interactivo) in Puebla, the university museum of the Tecnológico de Monterrey, seek to cause changes and social impacts from the most disruptive and innovative ways. Within the exhibition project “Attentar desde los códigos” the work of Rocío Cerón, Speculari. Future vestiges of language”, inspires the treatment of a topic of local urgency: a sector of people in a situation of forced displacement (irregular migrants) do not see Mexico and Puebla as a space of transit to the United States, but as a place host, where they want to start over. The Future Migrant Vestiges project integrates the action of international public bodies on the subject (UNHCR), the university academic-student community (Tecnológico de Monterrey) and the Cerón artist residency (MUI) to build an enveloping, immersive, integrating and participatory from the exercise of the poetic, of the vestiges of people in a situation of forced displacement in Puebla to start anew in the host community. Memory and its materialities make us question. What vestiges does each person who leaves their house take with them? to think differently about migrations and reconfigure the ways in which the city creates and reconfigures its relationship with the other migrant, building a sustainable and inclusive city and community. The project concludes with the creation of an installation (videomapping) that connects language, objectivity, sounds, voice and image to collect the traces of memory that the migrant leaves, brings with him and builds for his future.
