Designing for the Senses: Renovating the Cornell Lab of Ornithology Visitor Center

Abstract

The Cornell Lab of Ornithology Visitor Center is undergoing a major renovation, creating a new visitor-focused experience. As a global conservation organization, focused on birds, exhibits from nearly 20 years ago were not accessible. Bird-watching can be limiting for those with mobility devices, hard of hearing, and/or low vision. New exhibits, both tactile and digital, are being designed with inclusivity in mind with supplemental resources and programming being built to ensure all visitors are able to experience the wonder of birds and biodiversity.
