Abstract
The paper reflects and shares results from the application of practice-based pedagogies in the development of research/training synergies between the museum sector and universities in the UK. Two such synergies are examined in detail: one between the University of Manchester and the Manchester Museum (before 2010) and a recent one between SOAS University of London and the National Maritime Museum, RCG, London (2017-2020). While museums in the UK are increasingly offering micro-credentials based on short courses, the paper advocates for the mutual benefits of an integrated approach to resources and knowledge communities that can revolutionise collection research, innovate HE curricula, and diversify future professions in a way that is better suited for engaging museums and people in the 21st century.
