Framing Accessibility and Inclusiveness in Tourism and Heritage - a Literature Review : Which Are the Most Effective Strategies for Being Accessible and Inclusive in Tourism and Heritage?

Abstract

Accessibility and inclusiveness are key cross-cutting factors for achieving Sustainable Development Goals, gaining increasing attention due to the highly positive impacts on social wellbeing, influencing environmental awareness and having relevant economic spillover effects. Nevertheless, comprehensive action plans with a dedicated set of indicators are still missing. This literature review frames accessibility and inclusiveness in tourism and cultural heritage presenting an exhaustive set of evaluation criteria and best practices, proposing effective strategies and assessment tools boosting socio-economic development, and overcoming environment-related issues.
