Description

Laurier Turgeon is professor of ethnology (folklore) and history, and director of the Institute for Cultural Heritage at Laval University, Quebec City, Canada. He is also director of the Heritage Studies/Ethnology Program at Laval University. Much of his recent work focuses on the transmission and construction of intangible and tangible heritage through intercultural contacts in colonial as well as postcolonial contexts. He has published extensively on these topics and has received visiting professorships and fellowships from Harvard, Yale, MIT, Chicago, Paris-Sorbonne, Maison des Sciences de l’Homme (Paris). He is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Canadian Museum of History and is currently President of the Folklore Studies Association of Canada.
