Elder Sibling : An Ideal Mix of Red and Yellow

Abstract

Museums have been with us for a long time now, the word “museum” is derived from Latin which was, in turn, inspired by mouseion, the Greek term for “a shrine to the Muses.” In Classical Greek mythology, the nine Muses are the goddesses of the arts and sciences, making them perfect patrons for these knowledge-based institutions. (Richman-Abdou, 2018). The first thought that may come to mind when we hear the word museums. “I don’t want to listen to some boring, old story” “It’s full of unique things” “It’s really big” For me, museums are not just about caring, displaying, preserving information, or displaying proved results, it’s about having those data and experiencing it, taking them as a starting point to know something more. Why is there an innate need to go somewhere and learn something, why can’t we have a dialogue right here, right now.? The meaning of the word talks about information, learning from different perspectives,& and with time we associated this word with big space that display’s objects, and tells you information, we take museums as being something so big that they have become de-attached from us, we know where the word came from, we know what the museums intent is, so how do we take this intent forward in a way that it feels like something we want to learn more about, rather than something we have to know about. This paper tells a story of how museums can be something/someone very close to us.
