Emerging Leaders for Sustainability: Incorporating the Inner Development Goals Framework into a Short-term Sustainability Immersion Program View Digital Media

Paper Presentation in a Themed Session
Alicia H. Sprow,  Spencer S Stober

This study focuses on a short-term sustainability immersion program for traditional college-aged students that takes place at an eco-retreat in New Brunswick, Canada. The goal of this program is to provide nature-based adventure programming opportunities that guide how to effectively cultivate a caring, resilient community of people who make a positive impact on each other and the environment. The program details, framework, and research data from a recent program assessment pilot study are shared. This sustainability immersion program is delivered through 1) nature-based adventure programming that provides the setting in which the magic of deep connection can occur and 2) community engagement to cultivate community building and to expand students’ worldviews. The student outcome component is aligned with the Inner Development Goals (IDGs) that were founded in 2020 (IDGs, 2023). The IDGs were created to synthesize “a complex inner development into a framework that helps to name, understand, and communicate the change that is needed” to successfully meet the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (IDGs, 2023, p. 1). Programs for young adults are needed that stretch them beyond their comfort zone to grow and develop in ways that will help them build the skill sets needed to successfully address global challenges. We show how this short-term sustainability immersion program has incorporated the IDGs to help equip these emerging leaders with developing a mindset, their inner resources, to accompany their skill set to successfully tackle the sustainability challenges our global community currently faces.

Deriving Scenario-based Corporate Social Responsibility Practice Framework during the Outsourcing of Biopharmaceutical Products and Services View Digital Media

Paper Presentation in a Themed Session
Vikas Shah,  Jane Udoewa Brown,  Rachel Bailey,  Victoria Karugu

Biopharmaceutical organizations are experiencing challenges in keeping pace with the increasing demand for drug development, the evolving nature of the value chain activities, pricing adjustments due to market competition, and the complex nature of the cross-border regulatory requirements depending on environmental sustainability measures. Outsourcing biopharmaceutical products and services (BioPS) has become a strategic imperative, introducing ambiguity in implementing, authenticating, and validating CSR and ethical standards. This paper presents a comprehensive scenario-based CSR practice framework for outsourcing BPS. The strategic combination of scenario-based planning, well-defined processes, contractual agreements, and effective partnership management is fundamental for addressing uncertainties associated with outsourcing BioPS in developing countries. The methodology to derive the CSR practice framework emphasizes the changing dynamics of identified key performance indicators (KPIs). Our research indicates that environmental sustainability, labor conditions, market competition, cultural factors, and regulatory compliance within the biopharmaceutical industry are the primary paradigms to derive, govern, and evolve the KPIs. We represent an empirical case study of outsourcing BioPS to India, illustrating the evaluation and effectiveness of the scenario-based CSR practice framework explicitly developed for the biopharmaceutical industry.

Building Capacity to Advance Health: Organizational Change Management View Digital Media

Paper Presentation in a Themed Session
Asma Awan

The influence of managers’ leadership competencies, as well as their emotional and managerial skills, define the project’s success, but the type of organization and its functional success are influenced by other competencies. The aim of this project is to focus on the development and succession planning of companies would give opportunities to the managers to pay close attention to the skills required for leadership positions along with an educational enhancement. The University of Nevada, Las Vegas has undertaken an ambitious organizational evaluation project for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in recent years and has encountered different levels of challenges and success in their execution. As part of the process evaluation, key objectives are to use evaluation data to inform programming policies and practices. For many organizations, the role of change management has a significant part in determining the effectiveness of the process. The objective of this report is to provide a clear and concise overview of the most effective methods and insights gained from change management. The proposal was given to an organization in Nevada that experienced a health equity challenge in the communities to which it provides services for community needs. Change management in the community organization can be unsuccessful due to the presence of intricate infrastructures that impede effective communication among a geographically scattered and extensive group. This is especially accurate when change originates from the upper echelons and is anticipated to cascade down to staff who directly interact with customers in a service-oriented environment.
