Talking Circles are a distinctive feature of our in-person conference – and this year we are taking them online. Talking Circles offer an opportunity to meet other delegates face-to-face, and engage in extended discussion about the issues and concerns they feel are of utmost importance to that segment of the Research Network. The UAPO (Oncology Patient Support Unit) is a national non-profit foundation registered with the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport and currently has more than 14,000 members. Every week, 405 people with cancer pass through its facilities, each with a unique diagnosis. Thanks to its multidisciplinary approach, a pioneer in Spain, they all receive free comprehensive treatment accompanied by a team of physical educators, physiotherapists, nutritionists and psychologists, and administration and services staff. The UAPO is unique not only in the way it treats people (or oncological athletes, as they call them) but also in the background since it is a Foundation that is nourished by donations from individuals and companies. Thanks to this vision and the invaluable solidarity and donations of thousands of people, anyone with cancer can approach UAPO and receive comprehensive treatment. The foundations of the UAPO are forged from the growing scientific evidence that supports the association between regular physical activity and the reduction of the risk of cancer and cancer mortality.
