Polishing your Pedagogy on Zoom: What Are Your Best Practices for Making Zoom Better than a Video Chat?

Abstract

In this session I propose to discuss how Zoom can beat a video chat and become a online workshop. My goal is to share some tips among peers and fuel the debate about the future of education (from a practitioners’ point of view), especially as it seems that the competence of teaching online will become another core skill for academics to add to their portfolio of skills. I also propose a few ideas to focus on what is essential in higher education: student engagement. Discussion will be broken in four parts: 1. We can’t deliver as much, how to focus on what’s essential. 2. This is not the time for pride, it is students’ time. 3. Acceptance of losing control and trusting the class. 4. Partner for hands-on projects or use cases.
