Public Trust in Media: A Case Study of Nepal

Abstract

Based on the different studies on public trust on media in the international front, evidence outlines declining trends of public trust level. In this paper, I review the public trust level of media in the context of Nepal, and its comparison with other public institutions. This study is based on secondary data from conducted surveys by different public institutions. The trust level of media has continuously increased compared to other institutions in Nepal. It points out to question whether increasing public trust in media means failing public confidence of other institutions. One of the reasons behind increasing trust level in the context of Nepal is because of improvements in media laws and pluralism where media has been exposing the issue of corruption and the high respect to freedom of speech.
