Harnessing Food Trends to Bring About Food Policy Change: Using Social Media and the Local Food Movement to Promote Food Policy

Abstract

By harnessing current food trends such as farm-to-table, agri-tourism, the locavore movement and experiential tourism, communities can enhance their food security and create new food pathways through utilizing social media and technology. The creation of mobile applications, websites and online databases as well as active and engaging social media content across multiple platforms are instrumental in establishing an audience whereby food policy information and education can be disseminated.
