Challenges Faced by Non-governmental Organizations Working in the Field of Persons with Disabilities in Sudan: Environment of Voluntary Work in Sudan.

Abstract

Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in Sudan operate in difficult conditions. The unstable political conditions, the collapsing economy, and the armed conflicts have contributed, directly and indirectly, to aggravating social, educational, health, environmental, and living conditions in general. Consequently, these conditions impose a double burden, and increase the responsibilities entrusted to NGOs, which in turn increases the pressure on the resources and assets of these organizations. NGOs working in the field of caring for and providing services for persons with disabilities (PWDs) face greater difficulties and challenges. Given that work in this field is different in terms of resources, means, needs, and work environment. This paper identifies the challenges and difficulties facing organizations related to the care of PWDs in Sudan through interviews with the leaders of these organizations. The results of the study are helpful to decision-makers, policy-makers, and stakeholders to identify appropriate solutions to smooth out the work of organizations, and thus, develop services and care for PWDs in challenging circumstances.
