Five Cultural Attributes Required for Any Team To Rebound Strongly Post COVID: Successfully Navigating Times of Uncertainty Requires Cultural Leadership from the Top View Digital Media

Workshop Presentation
David Stewart

History provides some good lessons for leaders of teams on how to rebound strongly from difficult times. COVID is a once in a lifetime event that impacts team culture, and will require teams to adapt and change. The ability for any team to successfully navigate an uncertain future comes down to a Leaders ability to Lead and Influence Team Culture. There are five attributes teams that respond well after a crisis have in common: 1.A mission-centred team who are committed to the mission and purpose of what the organisation stands for 2.A road map out of the crisis broken into three horizons - H1, H2, H3, that allows for sequenced thinking and an ability to reimagine and innovate for the future (as a team). 3.Leaders who are resilient and optimistic fueled by their ability to role model key essential behaviours and influence these with their front-line leaders. 4. A predisposition to challenge the status quo and pursue a commitment to operational excellence. An in-ability to let go of the past, not act or change will threaten their future 5. An ability to pivot quickly and urgently in an aligned and united manner to pursue or act on the inevitable risks or opportunities that arise. It is these themes that will be explored as case studies during the workshop. Participants will navigate what is inherently known by teams and leaders, and highlight some good practices for implementation and application.

Using Big Data to Drive Big Knowledge View Digital Media

Workshop Presentation
Scott Leeb

Ninety-percent of the data in the world today has been created in the last two years. With the increase of mobile devices, social media networks, and the sharing of digital photos and videos, we are continuing to grow the world’s data at an astounding pace. According to former Google CEO Eric Schmidt, every two days we create as much information as we did from the dawn of civilization up until 2003. Data is big…and getting bigger. Unprecedented access to information and emerging technology (allowing us to harness different types of data – both structured and unstructured) have resulted in the rise of big data analytics, which holds the promise of helping companies and governments make more informed decisions by enabling individuals to analyze large volumes of data. However, success in achieving this goal is often elusive. There is no shortage of challenges – technical, cultural, organizational, operational – associated with addressing this daunting issue. In this session we explore the question of how do we extract big knowledge from big data and avoid the pitfalls that have confounded so many organizations. We use case studies from both the commercial and government sectors, and call on experience in leading the business intelligence/knowledge management functions at six leading international organizations to facilitate an interactive discussion on this important topic.
