Description

Utrecht is one of the largest cities in Holland. Utrecht is known for its cultural and historical sights and as a destination favored by tourists. Utrecht is famous for its canals, the 112-meter-high Domtower, Miffy and three UNESCO world heritage sites: the Rietveld Schröder House, the Limes (northern border of the Roman empire) and the new Dutch waterline (defense system).

You will learn about:

  • The Limes & the Roman Castle Ultra Trajectum
  • The foundation of the first Christian churches & the importance of Utrecht as a center of Christianity in the north
  • Utrecht as part of the Holy Roman Empire
  • Utrecht as an important city for trade in the early Middle Ages

  • The Dom Tower
  • The Domkerk
  • The Church of Saint Peter (11th century)
  • The old canal (former harbor of Utrecht)
  • The new canal
  • House of Pope Adrian VI
  • Almshouses
  • Sint-Catharinakathedraal & Catharijne Convent
  • Former monasteries with new functions
