From de-industrialisation to Capital of Culture and Eurovision Host: Liverpool a World Leading Tourism Destination
Join us to learn about Liverpool’s transformation from a
de-industrialised port city to European Capital of Culture 2008 and
place on the world stage as host of the Eurovision Song Contest 2023.
Set by the iconic waterfront of the River Mersey you will hear from
leading figures in Liverpool’s tourism industry about the city’s journey
to becoming a world leading tourism destination.
Date: Friday, 21 June 2024 from 9.30am – 5.00pm

Welcome by Sue Finnegan, Head of Visitor Economy at Marketing Liverpool followed by tour of the
building including the old prison cells, court rooms, great hall and concert room.
11am: Walk from St Georges Hall to The Bluecoat with tour guide
Focus on Liverpool’s famous Cultural Quarter including World Museum Liverpool, Walker Art Gallery,
Central Library on William Brown Street
Welcome by Bryan Briggs, Director of Cultural Legacies, followed by tour of building including event
spaces and information about the history.
12.45pm: Lunch at The Bluecoat
1.30pm: Walk from The Bluecoat to British Music Experience with tour guide.
Focus on The Beatles and the influence on the city with a walk along Mathew Street, Cavern Club,
Hard Days Night Hotel, Castle Street and Town Hall
2.15pm: British Music Experience
Welcome by Kevin McManus, Head of UNESCO City of Music at Culture Liverpool followed by entry
to BME exhibition for delegates.
4pm-5:30 pm: The day will end with drinks on Liverpool’s waterfront.
