Abstract

This study was to introduce Muna Island as the world tourism destination in Indonesia, by answering the following questions: what are the tourism attractions in Muna; what is the local government of Muna done to improve the image of tourism; and why is the Muna Island worth mentioning as the world tourism destination. Data collection was through in-depth interview, observation, and literature study. Data analysis was by qualitative approach. It was during the data collection and after the completion of data collection within a certain period. The research results show that Muna Island has the world class cultural attractions, such as indigenous, heritage, historical, food, and arts tourism. On this island the history of kites begins. By preserving his trademark nature-made ingredients, it can not be denied that Muna’s kite is the world’s first kite. On the Muna Island the kite history begins, and kites world festivals are often held in Muna. On this island there is also a written cave that is believed to be thousands of years old and describes the life of the people at that time. Muna Island also has world-class beach attractions which are very beautiful. Tourists can dive on these beaches. In recent years the Muna government has been keen to organize its natural beauty to show that in Muna tourists can discover the hidden paradise. Local governments also open access to isolation areas, by opening flight routes from Jakarta-Makassar-Muna to facilitate the world travelers to reach this exotic island.
