Abstract
In this paper, I examine the phenomenon of death of African migrants across the Mediterranean. Every year, thousands of migrants perish in the sea as they try to cross from North African shores to the European shores. I report and examine the numbers of deaths annually published by the International Organization for Migration. What can these numbers tell is about the tragedy of African migrants? What can they tell us about the moral global order? I also use my extensive fieldwork with migrants to try to understand why they may prefer the risk of death to the safety of staying home.
