Immigration: What College Students Know

Abstract

This research determines what college students in a small midwest liberal arts university know about immigrants, reasons people immigrate, what American immigration polices are, what their families own immigrant pasts are, and the politics surrounding immigration policies. Data collected from students’ initial and final surveys on immigration, reflective essays, and analysis of discussions on readings are used to determine American college students’ understanding of immigration. The implication of this research is that college students have a minimal level of knowledge regarding immigration issues facing their country.
