Assignment 3

The code of behavior at Google seems to indicate that action by employees should follow general "good citizen" rules. The actions favored by this code would be to ensure that all operations observed by employees are subject to interpretation by that employee and if they believe that they have observed an action that is not within this code then the action should be reported to HR. Some workplace activities that fit these recommended employee behaviors are treating each other with respect, maintaining company property with care, and keeping proper record of company expenses. Some activity outside work that seem to fit this code would be participation in volunteer work, mentoring, etc. These are activities that exhibit “doing the right thing”. Self monitoring to ensure that no conflict of interest arises in the daily personal interactions an employee has.

 

An action that would not be in line with the company guidelines might be the following. Have a family member start a business making coffee cups with logos on them. Approve a contract with said family members company, but in a way that hides the ownership of the company. Then purchase more cups than could ever be used and store them in a far away warehouse. When auditors come looking for inventory sheets, have documents showing that the cups were used in promotions and are no longer in company holdings. Continue ordering more cups...
