Assignment 8

I think that it can be very difficult to talk to someone who you might disagree with. This can be especially difficult on topics like security that are very complex and can often times deal with cultural issues. I think some of the ideas brought up in ethics of care could be useful. The idea that when you are talking to someone that you do not agree with to still have some underlying care for the person could make discussion easier. I think I would solve the problem by trying to find some common ground. For example, maybe I would start with why it is we are having the security discussion in the first place. Maybe we have had an issue where security has been substandard and has led to some type of damage for the company. I would try to also be empathetic to differing viewpoints and stress that we have to come to some type of common ground if we are going to solve the problem. I think in the end it will be difficult to persuade people who have different opinion than you, but some of the lessons in ethics of care could be used to try and forge some type of common ground that could be used to find a solution.
