ql-align-justify">For a long time, schools were built on a system where the framework of classes mainly focused on institutionalized sameness, where every child was expected to be on the same page and doing the same task at the exact same time. Differentiated instruction challenges this long standing concept by using digital ecologies and modern tools in order to push away the concept of one-size-fits-all teaching and learning experiences, ensuring that every unique student can progress according to their individual needs rather than the common standard of learning for the sake of uniformity.

This pedagogical shift toward personalization naturally incorporates the use of disability-specific tools, or assistive technologies, which are defined as devices and services designed to dismantle learning barriers and foster independence for students with diverse needs. These tools are important components of Universal Design for Learning (UDL), as the framework aims to replace uniform curricula with adaptable and customizable methods in order to provide assistance and to meet the diverse needs of all learners from the beginning. For example, a student who finds reading difficult and might be needing a tool that can allow them to effectively receive the message can use Text-to-Speech software to listen to their lessons while the computer highlights each word, helping them connect the sounds to the text. Another student who struggles to hold a pencil or type coming from various causes can use Speech-to-Text technology to turn their spoken thoughts into written essays instead. Additionally, disability-specific tools not only limit itself into speaking, reading, listening, and writing but also as well an analytical version and many others. One of the examples provided a route for Math as it became more hands-on with visual tools like GeoGebra and other virtual manipulatives that allow students with dyscalculia to interact with abstract concepts through real-time visualizations, which successfully transforms potential learning barriers into opportunities for academic achievement.

By using these thoughtful tools, we stop asking learners to fit into a rigid mold where everything has to be uniform and the same. Instead, we should create a classroom environment that acknowledges and nurtures each student's individual strengths, knows what they require, and what are the areas that need to be catered in a manner that enables the to grow in order to fully express their authentic self.
