Unlike traditional alphabetical literacy, which focuses primarily on letters and words, multimodality allows learners to experience and produce information using manufacturing units or digital pixels and bits that can simultaneously distribute text, still or moving images, and audio. In this context, learning games effectively demonstrate the use of multimodal meaning by combining different stimuli to support engagement and retention.

Learning games, also known as game-based learning, are interactive digital or physical activities that are designed to help students learn and practice skills while keeping them engaged. This concept transforms traditional education into a dynamic approach that makes learning enjoyable, interactive, and meaningful, while supporting various learning styles and encouraging positive feelings towards academic tasks. A particularly resonant example of this in practice is Kahoot!, which stands out as perhaps the most popular online quiz game used in classrooms today. Kahoot! turns simple fact recall and curriculum review into a high-energy, timed competition where students go head-to-head using their own devices. From a cognitive perspective, I see this as a form of synesthesia, where learners make powerful meaning by switching between the visual cues on a screen and the tactile action of responding on a device. By offering immediate feedback through a live scoreboard, Kahoot! effectively taps into our intrinsic motivation and the psychological power of positive reinforcement.

Ultimately, it offers a realization that learning games—such as Kahoot!—demonstrates that active participation in a collaborative and playful environment not only enables learners to be able to grasp and understand the lesson content but also enhances their engagement. This active engagement allows us to grasp concepts that seem to be a little difficult with more effectiveness rather than to simply learn with passive study methods, allowing us to nurture learners to make them both resilient and collaborative so that they can excel academically and while also enjoying the journey of learning process.
