According to Burbules (2012), ubiquitous learning environments extend the classroom into everyday life through digital technologies that allow learners to access, produce, and share knowledge continuously.

A learning ecology refers to the interconnected system of people, tools, spaces, and resources that support learning (Barron, 2006). When combined, ubiquitous learning ecologies describe a dynamic system where learning happens across multiple environments—physical, digital, and social.

The theory of distributed cognition (Hutchins, 1995) supports this framework by emphasizing that knowledge is not held solely in the mind but distributed across tools, people, and environments. In a MIL classroom, this means that students learn not only from teachers but also from:
