ql-align-center">New Perspective in Active Learning Concept

Active learning is an approach where students are not just passive recipients of information but are actively involved in constructing their own understanding. I was so impressed by what I have learned in the module and it gives me a new perspective in life. According to the module, active knowledge making is certainly a goal for all educators. And I think we all know and understand very clearly that producing knowledge of course is much more powerful than only consuming it. And this is in all domains. And being a producer brings different kinds of rewards than simply being a consumer, and this is particular in learning.

One of the example in the module that I liked is about the Chapter 7. Instead of assigning students to read Chapter 7 about volcanoes, a teacher can transform the lesson into an active learning task. For example, students can be grouped and asked to create Chapter 7 themselves. Each group will research different volcanoes from around the world, such as their location, type, eruption history, and interesting facts.

They can then present their findings through creative outputs like posters, digital slides, mini-books, or even short video presentations. After presenting, the class compiles all outputs to form a student-generated Chapter 7 about volcanoes. In this way, students are no longer just readers of content, they become authors and contributors of knowledge. This process enhances collaboration, creativity, and deeper understanding because they are actively engaged in researching, organizing, and explaining information.

To conclude, active learning offers a powerful shift from traditional teaching methods by placing students at the center of the learning process. It highlights that meaningful learning happens when students actively participate and take responsibility for their own knowledge construction. By moving from consumption to production, learners develop not only academic skills but also creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking.
