Translanguaging allows students to draw on their full linguistic repertoire—switching between languages to make sense of texts and express ideas. Rather than restricting learners to a single language, this strategy affirms their linguistic identities and enhances comprehension. For instance, students may initially discuss a text in their first language before producing written responses in the target language, thereby bridging understanding and expression (García & Wei, 2014).

Additionally, explicit vocabulary instruction and contextualized language support are essential. Teachers can pre-teach key terms, use graphic organizers, and model academic language structures to help learners engage with complex texts. Collaborative learning activities, such as peer discussions and group work, further provide opportunities for meaningful language use in authentic contexts (Cummins, 2000).
