Writing has consistently been an integral aspect of communication, as well as a means to convey one's thoughts and ideas that could never be away in our line of learning grid. One of the most significant writing approaches I have encountered and have especially continued to utilize is the concept of “Process Writing”. Not only does it deal with the end result of one's writing but also emphasizes the importance of its process and unlike the traditional methods that often prioritize rigid rules and just final products, Process Writing treats writing as a tool for thought as it does not limit itself into functioning with with grammar and fixation on morphemes, syntax, and parts of speech, but also allows us to gather our thoughts together to focus on creating a personalized piece without being overly concerned about the final outcome.

In Process Writing, the focus shifts from a rigid, error-focused final product to a developmental series of stages: pre-writing, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing. I particularly resonate with the idea that the drafting stage should be "messy" to eventually become clear. This approach intentionally leverages metacognition—the act of thinking about thinking—as I monitor my progress and make conscious choices about how to represent my thoughts. What makes this approach truly transformative is its social and collaborative dimension. Through conferencing and peer review, writing shifts from a solitary act to a dialogue. In this manner, this aligns with Michael Halliday’s concept of functional grammar, specifically the "tenor" or interpersonal metafunction, where the writer must consider their relationship to the reader and the specific purpose of the communication. By receiving feedback during the drafting phase, it is much easier to refine the field of the concept we are trying to magnify with much more clarity and understanding before the work is ever published.

Ultimately, Process Writing promotes autonomy and self-esteem by allowing the writer to be the conductor of their own meaning-making. It teaches us that learning to write is not just about mastering grammar, but about adopting a whole new way of thinking and representing our concepts and learnings.
