ql-align-justify"> As an English major, we are used to writing essays. Our professors taught us about the structure and the process of writing because writing is a very important skill for teachers. One approach to learning to write that I have encountered is Genre-based writing. English majors focus not only on learning the concepts of English, we are also taught about literature. We were being trained to critically analyze a specific literature and must produce perfectly structured sentences. Genre-based writing is a useful approach when crafting narratives within distinct literary genres or categories, not only it improves your creativity in writing it also improves your English grammar as Genre-based writing helps understanding how different text types follow a specific structure, purpose, flow, audience, and language features within a specific context. This approach is useful for students who want to organize their ideas and communicate effectively in different writing situations.

We English majors are so accustomed to writing literary critiques. One teaching method that I could suggest to enhance students' writing skills is asking them to write a literary analysis of a specific literary work. Aligning with the genre-based writing approach, literary analysis will enhance students' interpretation, analysis, and evaluation of literary texts. This will help students significantly enhance their critical thinking by allowing them to move beyond a surface-level reading.

Through this approach, teachers like us are helping students to develop critical writing in different types of texts, or genres. It is very important that students use a variety of sentence types in their writing as it will help them to produce a well-structured sentence because if we let our students retain them with one traditional approach where they will just write because they are tasked to. Combine the approach with a teaching strategy, such as integrating literary works in your lesson and aligned it with the genre-based writing approach
