Although it has been thought and used ever since I was in high school, I think there are still more to it that I haven’t really utilized that much and is still left undiscovered or unlearned. Thus, in this paper, I would like to have a deep dive into the process approach to writing, a step-by-step process of how to write instead of just finishing it in one go.

Process approach to writing is a process which includes planning ideas, writing a draft, revising, and editing which is a good way to follow, especially when you are just a beginner in properly writing essays and papers. This process would also help you to first organize your thoughts, brainstorming ideas so that you won’t be overwhelmed by doing it in one attempt and instead follow a process in which you will thoroughly can keep up with and write at ease. That is the thing that I liked about the process of writing. It guides you and allows you to be efficient in what you do along the way. You are not doing something blindly, but you know you are in a process and are further developing within it. This approach really reflects the true nature of writing where we can really express our own ideas and allows us to think and organize our thoughts. This process allows us to grow in a way that we are free to brainstorm, write revisions along the way as we deem necessary as we reflect on what we write which helps our skills as a writer to develop overtime through practice and reflection. On the other hand, traditional writing focuses more on rules and correctness which is kinda limiting for the students since in traditional writing, students are expected to become instantly perfect writers and not someone who is developing and has a potential to be one. This approach puts a lot of pressure on students, they have to use correct grammars, and structures which is kinda intimidating especially if they are still a beginner. The process writing approach is highly supported by the idea of Noam Chomsky where he believes that people have a natural ability to understand language therefore in this process, it will allow students to have the freedom to write and have their own understanding of language instead of strict grammar rules. Additionally, Halliday stated that language is used to create meaning based on context which highly supports this process where it encourages students to think and organize their thoughts to what topic, what’s the purpose, or for whom they are writing the paper which makes it more meaningful to work on.

To conclude, the Process approach to writing does not only give us freedom as learners to write about something, but it also gives us the ability to decide and to think on our own with its guidance. It helps us be efficient and confident in our writing, while also developing our writing skills. In this paper I realized how process writing is highly important even if you are a professional writer or not, it still has this significant effect of allowing people to think and ponder on what they write which highly helps in developing deeper understanding of what we are writing and that makes it so meaningful to write.
