This kind of teaching is common in science classrooms because many scientific ideas are easier to understand when students can see, feel, and move while learning. For example, when teaching about the solar system, a teacher may ask students to stand in different places in the room to represent the sun and the planets. As students move around to show the orbit, the teacher explains the meaning of revolution and rotation. In this activity, the words become clearer because they are connected to spatial positions and body movements.

This pedagogical practice shows that linguistic meaning is not separate from physical experience. When students hear a word like “orbit,” they may not fully understand it by reading the definition alone. However, when they walk in a circular path to represent a planet moving around the sun, the meaning becomes more concrete. The same idea can be seen in laboratory activities. When students learn about the states of matter, they may hold ice, observe water, and feel steam. The teacher explains the terms solid, liquid, and gas while students are touching or observing real examples. In this case, tactile experience supports the understanding of language.

Gestures are also very important in this type of teaching. Science teachers often use hand movements to show direction, shape, or change. For example, when explaining how molecules move faster when heated, the teacher may move their hands quickly to represent the motion. These gestures help students connect the spoken words to visible actions, making the explanation easier to understand.This practice shows that learning is multimodal because meaning is created through language, space, touch, and movement at the same time. Traditional teaching often focuses only on reading and listening, but this approach shows that students understand better when their whole body is involved in learning.
