ql-align-justify">One approach to learning how to write that I have encountered and would like to understand more as a future science educator is the process approach to writing. This approach teaches that writing is not done in one step, but through several stages such as planning, drafting, revising, editing, and sharing. Instead of focusing only on the final output, the process approach focuses on how students develop their ideas and improve their work over time. In science education, this approach is very useful because students often need to write laboratory reports, explanations, reflections, and research summaries. These types of writing require clear thinking, organization, and correct use of scientific terms, which can be improved through a step-by-step writing process.

The pedagogy behind the process approach is based on the idea that writing is a form of learning, not just a way to show what students already know. According to the concepts introduced in this section, literacy is not only about correct grammar or spelling, but about making meaning through different forms of communication. In the process approach, students first plan their ideas by brainstorming or making outlines. In science class, this may include drawing diagrams, listing observations, or discussing ideas with classmates. Next, students write a draft where they try to explain their ideas without worrying too much about mistakes. After that, they revise their work by checking if their explanation is clear and if the scientific ideas are correct. Editing comes next, where they fix grammar, spelling, and format. Finally, students share their work with the teacher or classmates, which makes writing a social activity.

This approach shows that writing is multimodal and interactive. Students do not only use words, but also tables, graphs, symbols, and illustrations, especially in science subjects. This is different from traditional writing instruction where students are expected to write one correct answer immediately. The process approach allows students to improve step by step and understand the topic more deeply while writing.For me as a future science teacher, this approach is worth using because it helps students think carefully, express scientific ideas clearly, and become more confident writers. It supports modern literacy, where students learn to communicate using many forms, not only sentences, but also visuals and data, which are very important in the field of science.
