Learners struggle with mental arithmetic fluency, often relying on calculators for even basic operations. This dependency inhibits the development of "number sense"—the ability to intuitively understand, manipulate, and estimate numbers. While the abacus is a traditional tool, it is currently underutilized as a formal cognitive intervention. There is a need to determine if the systematic use of the Abacus can serve as an effective scaffold to enhance the mental arithmetic speed, accuracy, and overall mathematical confidence of these students.

While modern mathematics education relies heavily on digital tools and paper-based algorithms, many students struggle with foundational number sense and mental calculation fluency. By manipulating beads to represent place values, students move through a three-stage development process:

Concrete: Physical interaction with the beads to perform addition, subtraction, and multiplication.
Representational: Transitioning the physical logic to paper-based strategies.
Abstract (Anzan): Developing the capacity to "mentally visualize" the abacus to perform rapid, accurate calculations without the physical tool.
