Multimodal learning refers to the use of different modes of communication such as text, images, audio, video, gestures, and interactive media to represent and communicate knowledge. Instead of relying only on written or spoken language, multimodal learning allows learners to understand concepts through a combination of visual, auditory, and interactive experiences.

Digital media has made multimodal learning more accessible in modern education. With tools such as videos, animations, infographics, and interactive platforms, teachers can present information in ways that support different learning styles. Students can also create their own multimodal outputs such as digital presentations, video demonstrations, or multimedia projects.

In teaching Physical Education (PE), multimodal learning through digital media can significantly improve students’ understanding of movement skills and fitness concepts. For example, I use instructional videos, diagrams, and voice explanations to demonstrate the proper technique for performing exercises like push-ups, stretching routines, or sports skills. Students can watch these videos through their mobile devices or learning platforms before or after class.

Another example is asking students to record a short video demonstrating a sports skill, such as a basketball dribble or badminton serve. Students can analyze their own performance and reflect on areas that need improvement. By combining video, text reflection, and teacher feedback, learning becomes more interactive and meaningful.

Multimodal learning also supports deeper understanding because students engage with information through multiple senses. In PE classes, visual demonstrations, body movements, audio instructions, and digital resources all work together to help students better understand physical activities.
