ql-align-justify">Duolingo was founded in 2012 by Carnegie Mellon Uni-versity computer science professor Luis von Ahn and his PhD student Severin Hacker. L. von Ahn grew up “in Gua-temala, where learning English could double your income potential and change your family’s life”. S. Hacker came to the United States from Switzerland, a country with four official languages. Realizing the importance of language learning, Duolingo’s founders assessed the potential of an untapped market and began looking for alternatives to language learning (von Ahn, 2020).

Duolingo is a digital language-learning platform that allows users to learn different languages through interactive lessons on a mobile application or website. The platform also uses game-like features such as points, levels, and daily streaks to motivate learners to continue practicing regularly. Because it combines text, audio, visuals, and interactive exercises, Duolingo provides an engaging and accessible way for learners to study languages anytime and anywhere using digital technology.

The reason why I chose Duolingo is because it has different features that can help students develop their skills by achieving a certain level of proficiency by unlocking different features to study with. What's good about Duolingo is that students are not going to practice the different features to shape their critical thinking skills, but it can be both creatively and fun engaging because of the gamification feature inside the mobile application. With this, students are able to encourage themselves to study in a fun way and not just a challenging way of learning.
