ql-align-justify"> A sample classroom application of critical literacy pedagogy in practice in an English classroom is using story books to improve learners' critical literacy skills where in students are provided with two age appropriate picture-storybooks to read, and the teacher will provide an explicit task across each lesson accordingly from time to time in order for the learners to give their own perspectives and meanings. This classroom application was studied by Rahayu et al. (2024) which stated that to improve literacy practice, learners should assess their reading and writing assignments from different ways, not just with one way. It is crucial for learners to also have an active learning to examine how well they are to write and read, such as thinking what message should be conveyed as for thinking to what to write for instance, and how deeply it explains the idea as for thinking on what this text is trying to say.

In a literature subject for instance, it is very important that teachers should create a way to interact with students and encourage them to appreciate literary works. With this, teachers should think what strategies and methods they have to incorporate in order to achieve that. A strategy that could be used is a book club, in which students will be grouped and discuss the literary work that is assigned to them. Each member will have a role, there should be a leader, summarizer, literary luminary, questionnaire, and connector. This strategy is a good activity to target not only the critical thinking of the learners but also their five macro skills, which is listening, reading, writing, speaking, and viewing. This kind of critical literacy approach is good for developing student critical consciousness and have them integrate multiple literacies as they can also watch the provided literary work if there is an animated movie. As incorporating these approaches, challenges may occur such as preparation and language proficiency limits of the learners.

Functional literacy and Critical literacy works in both ways. Functional literacy focuses on practical competence for everyday life. While Critical literacy focuses on targeting perspectives in text. It is cognitive.
