As I read the supporting materials about political leaders and their views on education, I realized that leaders from different countries propose different educational reforms. This may be because their priorities are shaped by the specific needs and challenges of their own nations. However, what truly caught my attention was the advocacy of the Queen of Jordan. She highlighted four important areas that education systems must focus on. Allow me to briefly comment on each one.

The link between healthy brains and healthy bodies. I strongly agree that learning cannot happen effectively without proper health. A child who is malnourished, stressed, or physically unwell will struggle to concentrate and perform academically. Education should therefore promote not only intellectual development but also physical and mental well-being. Schools must ensure that students are healthy in order to maximize their learning potential.

Start early and focus on the marginalized. Early childhood education is crucial because it builds the foundation for lifelong learning. If children receive proper guidance and support at an early age, they are more likely to succeed in the future. Moreover, prioritizing marginalized groups ensures equity in education. Students from disadvantaged backgrounds deserve equal opportunities to learn and grow.

Inclusion and quality must be the hallmarks of education at all levels. Education should be accessible to everyone regardless of ability, gender, or socioeconomic status. Inclusion ensures that no learner is left behind, while quality ensures that students receive meaningful and effective instruction. It is not enough to simply provide access; the education given must also be excellent and relevant.

Schools must be synonymous with skills. Schools should prepare learners not just for exams, but for real life. Students need practical skills such as critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and problem-solving. Education must equip learners with competencies that will help them succeed in their careers and contribute positively to society.

The Queen of Jordan’s advocacy presents a holistic and forward-thinking vision of education. One that nurtures the whole child, promotes equity, ensures quality, and prepares learners for the future.
