Here, I commend and salute our leader in the local government of Taguig City because of her deep desire to improve and direct the education system in our locality - reflecting the didactic pedagogy.

And now, for an update, here I want to introduce an institution where I am currently affiliated as a part-time NSTP faculty, the University of Makati (UMak), in the light of authentic pedagogy. The public policy on the “Laudato Si” (see link below), an advocacy, personally sphere head by our President, Prof. Elyxzur C. Ramos, PhD, CESE together with the community is a concrete example of this. UMak is a local university geographically located now in the City of Taguig, while under the administration and ownership of the City of Makati (see Supreme Court link below).

“UMak Laudato Si Plan 2025:

The University of Makati has been certified as an active participant in Laudato Si’ Action Platform by the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development… From proper waste management to curriculum integration, the university has been implementing projects and programs aligned with Laudato Si’s initiatives toward sustainable development… This certification reflects the institution’s commitment to preserving the environment and the ecology of our common home….”

We respond to the loud and timely call to action with a kind of experiential learning. We go outside the rooms for immersions and simulations and care for our environment. Embedded in our curriculum, we actively participate and learn from the environmental practices and learning implemented in our university.

Here, I recall the discussion of Dr. Dope and Dr. Kalantzis, that an authentic method of teaching is a progressive one and learners or students are the one to experience and figure out themselves the learning given to them by the educators and the curriculum. I personally experience that authentic method to learn because we are also immersed, allowing the students to discover their knowledge and understanding about the subject on environment.

By the way, to mention, NSTP or National Service Training Program is a program where students are guided, trained and formed as good citizens of the Philippines. Where also, our core values, Maka Diyos, Makatao, Makakalikasan and Makabansa is being lived out. Every session and immersion, is an experience of the students in reality and that leads them to the higher learning about life and the society.

UMak Laudato Si Plan 2025 is a concrete example of authentic pedagogy where in the University, it’s stakeholders and the local government of Makati join hands to value, conserve and be agents of environmental transformation to every walk of life we reach out.
