Process writing, which was created by the researchers and educators like Lucy Calkins and Donald Graves, is one example of this approach. Students learn through process writing that writing is a continuous, repeating process that involves planning, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing.

In this approach, students are able to choose their own topics and are encouraged to write for specific audiences in a process writing classroom. Instead of discussing, the teacher would be the one that facilitates learning by guiding students through peer review sessions, private conferences, and mini-lessons. This approach make students realize that good writing is made through various revision when they go back and edit their work several times and Instead of just finishing outputs for grades, this method would actually helps students recognize themselves as real writers involved in meaningful communication. Also, one of its significant advantage is that process writing also boosts student enthusiasm and involvement. Students are also more committed to their work because they write topics that are important to them or they are interested in. This approach also encourages critical thinking and reflection since learners are to take into consideration the audience, purpose, and clarity when revising written outputs. But there are some downsides to it like for example, Teachers may find it time consuming especially when giving feedback to students since they have to read all papers thoroughly before giving corrections or feedback. For learners, they might find it difficult to do this writing process if ever they don’t have enough understanding of grammar or writing rules which makes it a struggle since process writing is done individually without the aid of teachers during the writing process because feedbacks is only at the end of writing and not during.

In exploring process writing, I observed that it is a learner centered process which enables them to actually learn writing independently and improve on their own with minor guidance from the teachers. While didactic literacy teaching is more on direct instruction and rule mastery which is more teacher-centered.
