In culture circles, the roles of educator and learner become fluid, allowing everyone to contribute to the collective learning experience. This emphasis on real-world experiences not only enhances engagement but also promotes deeper understanding. Rather than passively absorbing information, students actively participate in dialogues that encourage them to critically examine various issues and ideas. Through this interactive process, students are motivated to ask essential questions such as "What is happening?", "Why does it matter?", and "Who is affected?" as they explore different subjects. The culture circle method empowers students to think critically, articulate their thoughts, and develop a heightened awareness of their social and cultural contexts. Ultimately, this approach fosters a dynamic and inclusive learning environment that values each individual's perspective and promotes transformative education.

The strengths of this approach lie in the deep engagement it fosters among students, as teachers tailor lessons to reflect the students' lived experiences and realities, which empowers them further. Additionally, it promotes the development of critical consciousness, encouraging students to question power structures and social inequalities. However, one challenge of this approach is the difficulty in aligning the culture circle with standardized curricula and testing systems. Furthermore, the potential political sensitivity surrounding this method must also be taken into consideration.

The Culture Circle approach shares important similarities with functional literacy pedagogy, particularly in its ability to enhance students' skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Both methods can be effectively utilized across a range of educational contexts, from formal classrooms to adult education programs, and they both rely on structured teaching to facilitate learning.

However, their distinctions are noteworthy. Functional literacy primarily emphasizes competency and the practical skills necessary for everyday tasks, whereas Paulo Freire's culture circle focuses on power dynamics and ideological awareness. Freire's approach encourages critical questioning and transformation, setting it apart from functional literacy’s emphasis on correctness and comprehension.
