In this platform, lessons are usually delivered through short videos where the instructor explains the topic in a clear and step-by-step way, followed by practice exercises to check the students. The teaching style is very direct because the teacher presents the information first, and the students will mainly listen, watch, and then apply what they have learned. It reflects a traditional didactic approach since the flow of learning is more teacher-centered rather than student-led. From my observation, this method is very helpful for learners who prefer structured explanations and need strong foundational knowledge before moving into more complex ideas. The app also allows students to learn at their own pace, which has a big advantage, especially for those who feel shy, nervous, anxious or pressured in a classroom setting. With Khan Academy, they can replay lessons, pause videos, and review concepts without feeling embarrassed if they do not understand right away.

A study published in Child Development found that children in highly structured, teacher-led programs sometimes felt less motivated than those in more student-centered or exploratory programs. Neuroscience research also suggests that active engagement—where students think critically and participate—can improve long-term learning and retention more than passive listening alone. Therefore, research supports that didactic teaching methods, like those used in Khan Academy, are effective for building clear understanding and foundational knowledge. But for learning to be more meaningful, combining this method with activities that encourage exploration, discussion, and critical thinking can make a big difference.

At the same time, there are also some limitations to this kind of pedagogy. Because the instruction is mostly one-way, students may become passive learners who simply receive information instead of actively participating in discussions or collaborative learning. Although it may sound effective, it may not fully develop critical thinking, creativity, and deeper engagement since the focus is more on understanding explanations and getting the correct answers. Some students might also feel less motivated if the so-called… learning experience becomes repetitive or too focused on just watching videos.

Overall, didactic pedagogy, as seen in Khan Academy, is effective for delivering clear and organized lessons, but it is more impactful when combined with interactive and student-centered activities that encourage learners to think, explore, and engage more deeply with the content.
