A classroom where writing is more about uncertainty than it is about getting to an answer; a classroom where ideas could circle, challenge into each other and gradually form, where authentic literacy pedagogy is in its element, this is an example of this is process writing. To examine, process writing views writing as a form of thinking that is in motion. Rather than the original draft being expected to be a finished product, the process of writing encourages students to brainstorm (freely), draft (imperfectly), revise (thoughtfully) and reflect (continuously), many times going back and forth between the four stages. The teacher's role has changed from an authoritative figure providing a final answer to a guide providing feedback, modeling strategies, and providing opportunities for students to interact with their peers. Writing therefore becomes a social, reflective, meaningful act rather than just an academic (or) obligation.

Process writing provides learners with a candid way to connect with their education and other individuals. Through the use of process writing, students understand that their mistakes help create meaning, that revision helps them grow not fail, and that their voice has a value in learning. Process Writing encourages creativity, critical thinking and building confidence especially for students who do not respond well to writing as merely grammar drills or structured formats. The limitations of Process Writing include: it takes a long time to implement; requires a lot of teacher patience; and requires the teacher to have a high level of classroom management skills (Parady, 2024). If teachers do not explicitly teach students how to develop their ideas fluently without earning the proper level of grammar and mechanics in there writing, the student won't be able to transfer the fluency in developing their ideas into developing the correct level of grammar and mechanics in their writing. Balancing structure and freedom in the classroom for process writing is a critical part of ensuring that the process writing approach is not ambiguous, confused or overwhelming for students especially when working with large class sizes or when prepping for exams.

The primary difference between a didactic literacy model and an authenticity-based literacy model is philosophical in nature and practical in application. The traditional approach is characterized by direct instruction using fixed rules, repetitive practice and teacher dominance, while students in the didactic literacy classroom passively listen, memorize, and reproduce language from preordained models. Although this method can be very effective for developing foundational literacy skills, it does not support students developing their agency or a more complex understanding of literacy.

By contrast, process writing (as an authentic approach) views literacy as a lived experience in which people develop their literacy through their own experiences and by interacting with others. One approach instructs students to complete a written assignment by following a set of predetermined steps, while the other teaches students to think critically about the language they use, and to view writing not simply as an assignment to be completed, but rather as a means of understanding and learning about the world we live in.
