This chapter sets the stage for the entire study, providing background, purpose, and the impetus for the research. 3,000-4,000 words.

Background and Context of the Problem: Provides context and general information about the topic.
Problem Statement: Clearly identifies a specific problem or gap in existing knowledge that the research will address.
Positionality: What brings you to this study.
Purpose Statement: Specifies the goals and objectives of the study.
Research Questions/Hypotheses: Delineates the specific questions the study aims to answer or the hypotheses it will test. (Tentative only in first draft; will evolve during the study and be settled by the preliminary examination)
Significance: Explains the rationale for conducting the research and its potential contributions to the field.
Organization/Overview of the Chapters: Briefly describes the structure of the remaining chapters of the thesis.

Chapter 2: Literature Review

This chapter an evidence-based account of existing research and scholarly work related to the topic, presenting the current knowledge base and highlighting where the study fits in. Allow the literature to speak, contrasting alternative perspectives and paradigms in a neutral way and addressing the field as an existing body of evidence. Seamlessly integrate general and special field in the final draft. 5,000-10,000 words.

Introduction: Briefly introduces the chapter's purpose and organization.
Review of Prior Research: Systematically presents relevant studies, publications, and sources.
An Account of the Literature/Identification of the Gap: Overviews the current state of knowledge and clearly identifies the gap that the present study will address.
Definition of Terms: Clarifies key terms or specialized terminology used throughout the thesis.
Summary: Concludes the chapter, reiterating how the literature review supports the need for the study.

Chapter 3: Theory and Methods

This chapter provides a detailed blueprint of how the study was or will be conducted, allowing another researcher to potentially replicate the study. 4,000-6,000 words.

Introduction: Briefly introduces the chapter's purpose and organization.
Theoretical Foundations: Select and justify key theories and models relevant to the research problem and outline the guiding theories or models used in the study
Research Design: Specifies the overall approach (e.g., quantitative, qualitative, mixed-methods, experimental) and justification. Include a logic model capturing the elements and processes of the study.
Study Site and Setting: Describes where the research will take/has taken place.
Participants/Sample and Recruitment: Details the population and sample size, sampling strategy, and recruitment process.
Instrumentation/Materials: Describes the tools, surveys, equipment, or data collection instruments.
Data Collection Procedures: Outlines the step-by-step process of gathering data.
Data Analysis Procedures: Describes how the collected data will be/was processed and analyzed (e.g., statistical tests, thematic analysis, use of supporting technologies).
Ethical Considerations: Discusses how ethical guidelines were followed (informed consent, confidentiality, IRB approval).
Researcher Reflexivity: Reflections on researcher positionality, and processes of triangulation to mitigate potential researcher bias.
Limitations of the Methodology: Acknowledges potential weaknesses or constraints inherent in the chosen methods.

Chapter 4: Results

This chapter reports the findings of the research objectively, typically without extensive interpretation or discussion, which is saved for the next chapter. 5,000-7,000 words.

Introduction: Briefly introduces the chapter and the plan for presenting results.
Data Presentation: Uses text, tables, figures, and graphs to present the data clearly and concisely. Can be organized by research questions, coding framework etc.
Description of Findings: Presents the specific outcomes or findings in relation to each research question or hypothesis.
Summary: Briefly summarizes the main results found, but with minimal interpretation at this stage.

Chapter 5: Discussion, Conclusion, and Recommendations

This final chapter interprets the results, draws conclusions, and suggests future implications. 4,000-6,000 words

Introduction: Briefly introduces the chapter's purpose.
Summary of Findings: Provides a brief overview of the primary results.
Discussion/Interpretation of Findings: Analyze, interpret and triangulate the results in light of the literature review and theoretical framework, discussing whether hypotheses were supported.
Contributions: (theoretical, methodological, practical)
Implications: Discusses the practical, theoretical, or policy implications of the findings.
Limitations: Acknowledges the constraints or weaknesses that might have influenced the outcomes.
Recommendations for Future Research: Suggests areas for further study based on the findings and limitations.
Conclusion: Provides a final, concise answer to the research questions, summarizes the work, and offers a concluding thought on the overall contribution of the thesis.
