Recently, I just came upon the UNESCO Education 2030 Framework for Action, which establishes worldwide social objectives for education. One particularly memorable line is:

“Education must empower learners to become responsible global citizens, capable of addressing the challenges of a rapidly changing world” (UNESCO, 2015, p. 12).

This phrase struck a chord with me because it is consistent with genuine education, which stresses meaningful learning, connects to real-world situations, and engages students in higher-order thinking. For example, in my classroom, I've attempted to make teachings more real by having students develop a little garden and observe environmental changes rather than simply memorizing plant components. Learning becomes relevant, purposeful, and related to their daily experiences—just as UNESCO envisions global education.

This term resonated with me because it is associated with true education, which emphasizes meaningful learning, links to real-world issues, and engages pupils in higher-order thinking. This is where teachers must understand and convert the objectives into relevant classroom activities.
