Over the last several years, I've witnessed a significant movement in education: from mostly didactic, teacher-centered classrooms to a more learner-centered, participatory experience. As a Nursery and Kindergarten teacher, I used to depend largely on direct education, which involved explaining letters, numbers, and fundamental science step by step. While this provided essential knowledge, I discovered that when young learners can explore, modify, and create, they are more engaged and remember information.

For example, during a recent plant science session, instead of just discussing the plant's parts, I had the students plant seeds, watch growth, and record changes in journals. This method draws on constructivist and transformational pedagogies (Kalantzis & Cope, 2012), combining experience learning and reflection. The transition from pure didactic instruction to a more participatory method aided the children's curiosity, problem-solving abilities, and ownership of their education.

I also noticed that technology is becoming more crucial. We utilize Khan Academy Kids for phonics work and YouTube videos like The Magic School Bus.

Visually explore scientific topics. These digital technologies make classes more engaging than traditional lectures.

It's amazing to watch how pedagogy evolves, from teacher-led information transfer to co-constructed learning situations in which the instructor guides rather than commands. I've discovered that combining didactic, constructivist, and transformational approaches results in a more diverse, interesting learning environment.

This makes me wonder: How can we balance foundational knowledge with experiential and transformative learning to prepare students for a future we can’t fully predict?
