Gamification, to put it simply, is the process of making tasks or activities more motivating by incorporating game-like elements. By gamifying the entire process, modern, user-friendly web and mobile-based learning platforms help lessen the boredom that is frequently connected to lengthy training sessions. Rather than depending exclusively on conventional guides, participants can engage in game-like activities where they can win prizes and get acknowledged for their advancements.

Intermediate, peripheral, and core gamification are the three primary forms of gamification in education, according to Master-O (2019). The first goal of intermediate gamification is to make learning more engaging and dynamic than it is with conventional approaches. Time-bound tasks, group projects, and live feeds that let participants interact in real time are a few examples of instructional techniques. In contrast, peripheral gamification uses visible reward systems like leaderboards (PBLs), points, and displayable badges to rank and track students' performance. Employee training programs and apps for food and travel are just two examples of the industries that already make extensive use of these components. Core gamification, on the other hand, places an emphasis on mastery by letting students retake tasks and enhance their comprehension in a controlled, closed-loop system, facilitating consistent advancement in an enjoyable and comforting setting.

The ultimate aim of gamification is to encourage motivation and interaction while studying subjects like English. Through the use of a vast array of online game designs and applications, educators can support students' sense of self-determination and cater to a variety of learning needs. Sailer et al. (2017) found that performance graphs, leaderboards, and badges have a positive impact on learners' perceptions of task significance and competence, which lends credence to this idea. Furthermore, learners' sense of social connection is strengthened by avatars, meaningful narratives, and teamwork, which makes learning more collaborative and engaging.
