Canva has various features that are not only limited to businesses — students and teachers can also use this platform to improve their literacy skills. It includes multiple AI tools to edit a photo, video, and text such as Magic Edit, Magic Grab, Magic Media, etc. It has access to thousands of elements, icons, and fonts. Canva supports modern literacies by allowing real-time, collaborative, multimodal, and digital texts which can turn into multiple templates and designs — reflecting how communication happens in everyday life.

As a student who uses Canva for academic purposes, it is a helpful tool to use for designing my projects and activities. However, Canva is not just for designing because it allows me to combine texts, symbols, icons, and images into one frame. It helps me understand that meaning is not limited to text, it can also be created through visuals, audios, and colors. For instance, making an infographic, whenever I make an infographic, I ensure that my visuals are connected to the information I am writing in my content. In short, maintaining the meaning of my content through adding visuals to create a meaningful output.

Canva also helps me to interact with my other peers/classmates, enabling us to co-edit our designs, comment on each other’s work, and share feedback and insights easily. It helps us to collaborate and communicate efficiently, ensuring the quality and preparedness of our academic work. On top of that, by designing multiple templates, it encourages us to practice how we communicate through oral and written. It enables us to learn appropriate tone and layout formally, which is a skill needed in academic and professional writing.
