color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">I have experienced recent changes in the nature of education primarily through early childhood education, where shifts in teaching practices and learning environments have been especially noticeable. Early childhood education has traditionally been grounded in play-based, hands-on, and relationship-centered learning. However, in recent years—particularly following the COVID-19 pandemic—there has been a growing integration of digital tools, remote communication, and hybrid models into early learning contexts.

One example that stands out is the increased use of digital platforms to communicate with families and support learning beyond the classroom. Educators now regularly share short videos, virtual story times, and digital portfolios to document children’s learning and maintain family engagement. While these tools have strengthened communication and transparency, they have also raised questions about screen time, developmental appropriateness, and the limits of technology for young children.

Another significant change has been the expanded role of families in the learning process. As learning moved partially into the home, caregivers became more actively involved in supporting routines, play activities, and emotional regulation. This shift highlighted the importance of strong educator–family partnerships, while also revealing inequalities in access to time, resources, and technology.

Research reflects these experiences. The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC)emphasizes that technology in early childhood education should be used intentionally and must support—not replace—human interaction and play-based learning. Similarly, UNESCO (2021) and OECD (2020) note that disruptions to early childhood education have long-term implications for children’s social, emotional, and cognitive development, particularly for children from underserved communities.

Overall, my experience suggests that recent changes in early childhood education have increased flexibility and communication, but they also reinforce the essential role of relationships, play, and responsive teaching in supporting young children’s development.
