In my two years of teaching in a private institution, I have realized that education today is no longer what I imagined when I first stepped into the classroom. Technology has changed the way my students learn, speak, and express themselves. Sometimes, I feel like I am teaching in a space where attention is divided between lessons and screens, where answers are easy to find but understanding takes more effort. As a teacher, this reality has pushed me to question my methods, my purpose, and even my confidence.

There are moments when I feel challenged and unsure, when students rely more on technology than their own thoughts, and when genuine writing and honest expression seem harder to draw out. Yet, these moments have also taught me patience and compassion. I have learned that my role as an English teacher is not to compete with technology, but to remind students of the power of their own voice. I try to create a classroom where it is still safe to think slowly, to make mistakes, and to speak from the heart, even in a world that moves so fast.

Through these experiences, I have come to realize that modern education in the Philippines needs more than innovation, it needs understanding. Technology may shape how lessons are delivered, but it is human connection that shapes learners. Despite the exhaustion and doubts, I remain hopeful. Every time a student writes something honest, speaks with confidence, or discovers meaning in words, I am reminded why I chose this profession. In these interesting times, being an English teacher means growing alongside my students, learning to adapt, to feel deeply, and to believe that language still has the power to connect, heal, and inspire.
