The Focus: From Mayo School to NCA This study centers on the National College of Arts (NCA), tracing its rich lineage back to 1875. By utilizing archival research and oral histories, we explored how the "Mayo School of Art" transitioned from a colonial arts and crafts center into a modern powerhouse of design.

Key Findings:

The Dual Influence: Pakistani design education was shaped by two forces—the colonial legacy of craft and the rapid economic shift from traditional lithography to digital technology.
The Recognition Gap: Despite the popularity and economic necessity of graphic design, it has historically lacked the institutional "prestige" granted to Fine Arts.
The Path Forward: The absence of a documented history is a hurdle for future growth. By reconstructing this narrative, we aim to preserve our heritage and provide a foundation for the future of Pakistani design.
